About Jewel Ward

Two Hemispheres, One Soulful Roots Sound

Jewel Ward is an acoustic folk and soul storyteller, singer-songwriter, and guitarist based in western North Carolina. Her music blends the storytelling traditions of Southern Appalachia with the lyrical influence of her mother’s New Zealand heritage.

Born in Texas to a military father from an old western North Carolina family, Jewel was shaped by family roots spanning two hemispheres. Her songs are grounded in place, memory, resilience, and the emotional truths that connect people across generations and distances.

Authentic Storytelling Through Song

Whether performing on a front porch, in an intimate listening room, or at a community festival, Jewel draws listeners in with her warm, resonant voice and heartfelt approach to every song.

Her repertoire moves between tender ballads, acoustic folk, soulful roots music, blues influences, and songs with a little grit beneath the surface. Whether singing an original composition or interpreting a familiar song, she focuses on connection—allowing the lyric, melody, and story to lead the performance.

Music Rooted in Western North Carolina

Jewel performs throughout the foothills and Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, bringing music to community gatherings, festivals, open mics, private events, and informal porch stages.

Her work reflects her love of Southern Appalachian storytelling while also honoring the New Zealand and South Pacific heritage carried through her mother’s family. Together, those influences give her music a sense of both home and distance: red dirt roads, mountain landscapes, ocean crossings, memory, faith, and the long journey toward becoming fully oneself.
